To Know Yourself
What does it mean to know yourself? Does it mean knowing basics, like what color you fancy the most or, what your favorite time of the day is?
Or does it mean to know what you truly align with in life, to know that you are connected to the Earth, and all that is alive?
I’d say, it’s a little bit of both.
To know yourself, it is helpful to know the basics. Your likes, your dislikes, what turns you on and what gets under your skin. But these are the mere surface level things that make you who you are.
Just like your features, the color of your eyes, and the pigment of your skin. These attributes do not dictate your soul and who you truly are. But they help familiarize you, and get you associated with the world around you.
However, some of these characteristics, more specifically personality traits, change over time. They change with experience, whether it be love, heartbreak, or facing a fear. They can remain for some time; however, they often recycle themselves as life goes on.
So, to truly know & understand who you are, you cannot solely base it upon things that circulate. You must look deeper within.
Which brings me to my main point.
Two years ago, if you would have asked me, who I was, or to simply describe myself in a couple of words, I wouldn’t have the slightest clue of what to say. Or at least I would know exactly what I would want to say but would hold back my tongue because I knew that the image of myself I would be projecting, would not truly be me.
Only who I wanted to be.
Although almost anyone will pause before answering questions as familiar yet unexpected as such, I believe that I now have the best idea of what I would say, today.
What would I say?
Simply, I am a creative soul. An energetic, vibrant, and charismatic person. Someone who loves learning, growing, and trying new things. Who always strives for better, for more. I’m a big dreamer, but I put those dreams into action by doing. And I do all this, with love, kindness, and gratitude in my heart.
That is who I am.
Energies, Vibrations, and Life.
What does that do for you?
My hope is that this knowledge inspires you, intrigues you, and gets your creative juices flowing.
You might think, I want to know myself the way she does, and well, I’m here to tell you, you can! And you will if you work for it.
I don’t mean countless hours spent starring in the memory asking who am I, on repeat or overthinking every interaction you have ever had with yourself or anyone else.
I mean, by tuning in to yourself.
Listening to how you feel, what you feel and why? Understanding what this means in regard to your character, and how it has shaped you.
Which requires love, patience, and some excavation of your past.
But that does not mean, it is not worth it.
Because in the end, once you dig up all the rubble, and find the gold, not only will become thankful for who you are now, but you will understand why everything in your life went the way it did.
And you will know that you are who you are meant to be.
Not someone living a secret life in their dreams.
