Vision Boarding
I often find myself lost in a daydream, creating otherworldly scenarios, experiences and events within the inner workings of my subconscious mind.
And if you are anything like me, you might be all too familiar with the quote, “Day dreamer, night thinker.”
However, I am not here to scold you or even tell you to stop living within the depths of your mind. In fact, I intend to tell you the exact opposite!
Well, almost.
See, I have come to understand that life is in fact what you make it. Therefore, the thoughts, self-talks, and language we use towards ourselves and others, affect our lives much more than we know.
But not to panic! There is a way we can use this very idea to our advantage!
And that’s the idea I wanted to share with you today.
A little exercise called Vision Boarding aka Visual Manifestation.
What is Manifestation?
If you are unfamiliar with the term Manifestation, I would like to fill you in before we get started!
Manifestation is defined as the act of making something evident or certain by showing or displaying, whether it be something physical or mental.
In other words, Manifestation is the creation of a desire, physical or mental, from that of a mere want into reality. Or making something appear right before your very own eyes.
With this understanding in combination with Vision Boarding, we can begin to tap into the true potential of what we like to deem as mere "daydreams."
So, here’s how Vision Boarding works!
Preparation
You will need to collect a few materials before sitting down to create your first vision board which will include:
- Cork board, or poster board
- Glue, tape, or pushpins
- Old magazines, or newspapers
- Scissors
Step 1
Begin a brainstorm of all the things you’d like to attain, or experience in life, letting your mind run wild.
Have you always wanted to be invited to a masquerade party or jump out of a plane?
Here is your chance to explore those dreams!
Step 2
From this brainstorm, begin asking yourself what things/experiences you would like to have in your life now. In other words, prioritizing these desires in order of relevance & importance to your life in the present.
Step 3
Pick a few ideas/activities from your prioritized list, to bring into fruition within your life.
I like to stick to around 2 to 3 things at a time, so I do not overcrowd my mind with too many wants and avenues to focus on.
If this is your first time doing anything like this, and you find yourself skeptical of the likelihood of anything coming true, start with something as simple as manifesting a double chocolate fudge donut.
Step 4
Here’s where the true magic begins!
From your top picks of about 2 to 3 things, do some research online, whether it be on the awe-inspiring search engine on Pinterest or even cut outs from old magazines you have around house, find pictures, words, quotes, or anything that sticks out to you, in relation to what you desire to create for yourself.
You can even try watching example videos of how others created their very own vision boards, which is something that sparked me to get back into the activity.
Check out this video by one of my favorite youtubers of all time, MamaSwole, as she walks you through how she creates her very own Manifestation board.
Step 5
Print out or cut out the pictures & other resources you have found in correlation to your desires and begin to lay them out on a cork board or any backdrop of your liking.
Just make sure the pictures are clear in their message and visual appearance.
Step 6
Once you have your Vision Board all together, it is time to manifest!
What I like to do at this stage, is to go around my board, giving thanks for being in alignment with each of the things I desire.
For instance, say I want that double chocolate donut and I printed out a picture of it to place on my Vision Board. I will thank whoever I believe to be blessing me with the gift of receiving such a delicacy, whether it is your own form of God, or some other divine being.
Saying something along the lines of, “Thank you divine spirit for gifting me with such a delicious double chocolate fudge donut/”
While doing so, I close my eyes, imagining, feeling, and tasting the donut as if I already have it right in front of me!
Then go down the line and do this for each of the things you are manifesting.
Paying very close attention to how you feel and homing in on feeling as though you already have what you desire in your life.
Step 7
This step is optional and can vary in length from person to person based off personal preference, however, for the next 7 days after I begin my manifestation board, I like to once again thank my lucky stars for gifting me with my desires, and really living in that moment as if I already have them.
And last but not least! Step 8
This is the most important step!
Which is detachment.
In manifesting, it is important to detach any unwanted feelings, whether it be doubt, fear, or expectation of how, when and why your manifestations will come into fruition, and rather, letting go of all expectation.
Manifestation happens when we are in alignment with what we desire, meaning, when we feel certain whatever, it is that we want will come to us, without us having to stress or worry it into reality.
So, if you that means you must meditate or take time out in your way to decompress, to find more patience, and escape the doubts & expectations you have set your desires, then that is exactly what you should do!
Just trust in yourself & the world, that what is meant for you will come to you, one way or another!
Closing
To close, I wanted to send you off with a message of hope!
I wish you all the very best experience in manifesting your dreams & desires! And I thank you for taking the time to join in on the practice of manifesting with me.
